Blue-Chip CB Wardell Mack Pledges to Florida

The Florida Gators have earned Marrero (La.) cornerback product Wardell Mack's commitment.

On Monday, the Florida Gators earned their second cornerback commitment of the 2024 cycle, alongside Teddy Foster, as Marrero (La.) DB Wardell Mack pledged himself to Billy Napier's squad. 

He chose UF over Florida State, Texas and LSU, among others.

Visiting three times since his March 9 offer from Florida — more than any school in that span and tied with LSU for the most visits in his process — Mack built a strong rapport with the staff. Position coach Corey Raymond and Louisiana-area recruiter Jabbar Juluke (running backs coach) led the charge to peak Mack's interest in the potential to suit up in orange and blue at the collegiate level.

As Florida searched for a high-level cornerback prospect to help replenish talent and depth in the unit, Mack reciprocated the team's intrigue to arise as a legitimate candidate on the radar to fill the void.

Now, he does just that. 

Despite being undersized for the position relative to the mold Raymond has stuck to since coming over from LSU last offseason, at 6-foot and a half, 170 pounds, Mack is a splash addition to the Gators 2024 class. 

He's equipped with active hands, impressive closing speed and well-developed ball skills as a high-upside coverage man, which he showcased consistently during his two varsity seasons at John Ehret. 

Florida will start refining those talents, and his technique, to maximize the skill set he can provide the secondary upon his arrival at the University of Florida.

Mack is the 22nd prospect to join the Gators this cycle, further bolstering the No. 3 recruiting class at this stage. He is the No. 13 cornerback and No. 115 overall player in the nation per 247Sports Composite rankings.
