Gators to Host DB Chris McCorkle III on Summer Official Visit
Florida's summer official visitor list continues to grow.
Gators defensive back target Chris McCorkle III has locked in an official visit to the University of Florida for June 7-9, he told All Gators on Tuesday.
The Cardinal Mooney High School (Sarasota, Fla.) product recently named Florida to his top 12 on Feb. 16, a list also including Florida State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Mississippi State, UCF and West Virginia.
Initially building a rapport with former defensive backs coach Corey Raymond following a May 23 offer extension, Florida established a firm standing atop the talented cover corner's recruitment heading into his junior season.
But, following the renowned assistant's release to begin the offseason, there was potential for a blip in communication between the two sides as UF sorted out who would assume the position.
Having kept in frequent contact with secondary coach Will Harris since the assistant's appointment on Billy Napier's staff in December, McCorkle remains intrigued by what the Gators have to offer for the future of his football career.
His official visit to Gainesville — his fifth trip to campus since July — will be a critical point in his recruitment process as a result.
Standing at 6-foot-1, 173 pounds, the four-star prospect sports a lengthy, slender frame, which he uses to his advantage in man-to-man coverage on the boundary.
McCorkle has also found success on the other side of the football throughout his prep campaign, reeling in eight receptions for 186 yards in a limited role as a pass catcher. His impressive playmaking ability offensively is a trait coveted by the Gators when pursuing defensive back talent during the Napier regime, given the translation of ball skills and increased football IQ a two-way player possesses.
It did just that for the cornerback during his junior season, as he accounted for nine pass breakups and four interceptions to pair with 14 tackles on the year.
He's accordingly realized a spike in interest in his recruitment, earning 14 offers since October 2023.
The Gators' acquisition of McCorkle's former defensive backfield mate at Mooney, cornerback Teddy Foster, during the 2024 recruiting cycle aids an already strong connection between him and the UF program. As a result, Florida is considered the unofficial leader to secure McCorkle's pledge when he opts to align himself with a school.
A multi-day trip to Indiana from May 31 to June 2 will precede his trek to UF. McCorkle currently has no other official visit dates set.
