The Florida Gators are surging quickly on the recruiting trail.

Defensive end prospect Amaris Williams has committed to the University of Florida, he announced during his official visit on Saturday.

Williams, who trekked to Gainesville for the first time for his official visit June 16-18, has long considered the Gators the leading contender for his services.

Pursued heavily by linebackers coach Jay Bateman and EDGE coach Mike Peterson, the Clinton, N.C., product went public with his decision to suit up in orange and blue during his collegiate career.

He is the second 2024 recruit to pledge to Florida on Saturday, joining tight end Amir Jackson to bring UF’s commitment class up to 12 prospects. Just moments after his announcement, Dublin (Ga.) iDL Nasir Johnson joined forces with the Gators as well.

Ranked as the No. 23 defensive lineman and the No. 186 player nationally according to 247 Sports Composite, the 6-foot-3, 270-pound Williams is a uber-athletic defensive line who can help sure up depth and talent in the unit moving forward.

He will likely align as a five-tech, 3-4 defensive end piece in the Gators trenches at the next level, but possessing the versatility needed to operate at a high volume within defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong’s multiple-front scheme.
