DL Nasir Johnson Commits to the Florida Gators

Dublin (Ga.) defensive lineman Nasir Johnson announced his commitment to the Florida Gators during his official visit to Gainesville.

The Florida Gators are heating up in the 2024 class. 

Just hours after the tight end Amir Jackson’s commitment and minutes following defensive lineman Amaris Williams’ pledge to the team, defensive lineman Nasir Johnson has aligned himself with Florida. 

He chose the Gators over interest from Florida State, South Carolina and several other programs.

Johnson is freshly removed from/in the midst of an official visit to the University of Florida for the June 16-18 weekend.

Standing at 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, Johnson presents an imposing and athletic presence from the middle of the line for Dublin High School in Georgia. 

He’s a powerful iDL prospect with a wrestling background and nimbleness to work side-to-side or uphill quickly into the backfield at the snap.

He ranks as the nation’s No. 250 overall player and No. 30 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings.

Florida, searching for adequate beef to anchor the trenches moving forward, accordingly jumped on Johnson heavily after its March 7 offer. Linebackers coach Jay Bateman and defensive line coach Sean Spencer, who split duties on the trail when it came to Johnson, joined the mix of potential suitors in the middle of his surging recruitment to begin 2023.

He took an unofficial trek to campus on April 7 before his multi-day stay in Gainesville this weekend.

The trip helped Florida secure his pledge and fend off the in-state rival Seminoles and SEC East foe Gamecocks despite scheduled officials to both schools. Florida State was previously set to host him June 23-25.

It’s unknown whether the visit still remains on the calendar.

The Gators are now up to 12 commits in the 2024 cycle. Johnson is the fifth defender and the second defensive line prospect to join the fold, following Williams’ pledge announced minutes beforehand.
