Florida continues to make headway on the recruiting market, progressing in contention for several top prospects in the 2024 class.

On Thursday, the Gators added edge prospect Amaris Williams to the list of talent they're competing for as he labeled Florida alongside Georgia, NC State, Penn State and Tennessee in his top five schools.

“Thank you to all the schools that have given me the opportunity to play Division I football,” he said in his post to Twitter. “After much consideration, here are my top five schools.”

The Clinton (N.C.) product is expected to join several top defensive targets — linebacker Aaron Chiles, edge Jamonta Waller and cornerback Wardell Mack — in Gainesville for the June 16-18 official visit weekend, according to 247Sports.

Williams, a proven frontline defender with reps on the interior and exterior of the defensive line during his prep career, compiled 65 tackles and 18 sacks as a junior in 2022. The productive campaign drew in several high-level suitors since December, including UF on March 13.

Florida’s recruiting him to occupy an edge spot under outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson, but his versatility along the trenches — possessing the 6-foot-3, 260-pound frame needed to move down the line in pass rushing situations— bodes well for the Gators given the multiple defensive front to be deployed under new defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong.

Williams is also scheduled to visit in-state school NC State June 2-4, but has no others on the calendar at this time.

He will announce his commitment just prior to his senior season, having previously set an Aug. 16 deadline for his recruitment.
