Edge Daniel "DD" Holmes Names Gators to Top Six

The Florida Gators land in the top six for four-star edge rusher Daniel "DD" Holmes.

Washington (D.C.) edge rusher Daniel "DD" Holmes is moving forward with a focus on six schools in his recruitment.

On Wednesday, Holmes placed the Florida Gators alongside Florida State, Michigan, Maryland, Rutgers and South Carolina as the top contenders vying for his services during the remainder of the 2024 cycle, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Holmes, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end for Gonzaga High School, aligns as one of many Florida edge targets for outside linebacker coach Mike Peterson, pursuing several pass rushers to add to his newly reconstructed unit in the 2024 class.

Holmes is the latest northeast prospect to arise as a high-choice target on Florida's radar, joining linebacker Aaron Chiles (Olney, Md.) and Kristopher Jones (Fairfax, Va.) and wide receiver Elijah Moore (Olney, Md.). They sit in a region strongly commanded by inside linebackers coach Jay Bateman, given his longtime ties in the area.

As a result, it's expected Florida's pursuit of the impressive edge prospect will be a tag team effort between Bateman and Peterson.

Holmes' spring was largely uneventful regarding trips to prospective campuses — mainly due to a time-consuming basketball season. His lone visit came in early April to FSU. As a result, he'll expectedly see his traveling schedule pick up significantly in the next few months as he attempts to pinpoint his future school.

The Gators, set to host a bevy of high-level talent in an official capacity in June, will look to lure him to campus as they hope to attract the talented DMV-area prospect into donning orange and blue threads collegiately.

Holmes' commitment timeline is unknown at this point and he has yet to schedule any official visits.
