UF's star-studded 2024 recruiting class suffered a significant setback on Saturday evening when Picayune (Miss.) Memorial edge rusher and Gators pledge Jamonta Waller announced that he has flipped his commitment from Florida to Auburn.
Waller had been committed to UF since June 19, when he joined the Gators' recruiting class one day following an official visit to the program.
However, Auburn remained a factor in Waller's recruitment throughout his pledge to Florida. Waller reportedly unofficially visited the Tigers for their Sept. 30 matchup with Georgia and their Oct. 21 contest with Ole Miss, after officially visiting the program from June 2-4.
Waller is considered the No. 6 edge rusher and No. 75 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by the 247Sports composite rankings. He has compiled nine sacks, 19 tackles for loss, 56 total tackles, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup during his senior season with Memorial to date.
In two varsity seasons, Waller has produced 162 total tackles including 43 for loss, 20.5 sacks, one interception, six pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a blocked punt.
Although the loss of Waller from the Gators' recruiting class certainly stings, Florida maintains commitments along the defensive front from edge rusher Amaris Williams of Clinton (N.C.) High, and defensive linemen, LJ McCray of Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland, Kendall Jackson of Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz, and Nasir Johnson of Dublin (Ga.) High.
Florida's 2023 recruiting class now includes 21 members.
