Report: No. 1 WR Schedules Florida Official Visit

Florida is reportedly positioning itself to legitimately contend for the services of elite wide receiver prospect Jeremiah Smith, who is currently committed to Ohio State.

The consensus No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2024, Opa Locka (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep's Jeremiah Smith, will officially visit Florida from June 2-4, according to 247Sports.

Smith will be joined by the prize of Florida's 2024 recruiting class, high-caliber quarterback commitment DJ Lagway, and three other pledged prospects during the visit: wide receiver Izaiah Williams, linebacker Adarius Hayes and safety Josiah Davis.

Smith's next trek to The Swamp will be his second since committing to Ohio State in Dec. 2022 and his fourth since Billy Napier was hired as the Gators' head coach just over a year earlier. Smith was joined by Lagway on his most recent visit, an unofficial trip on March 23.

247Sports reports that Smith will officially visit Ohio State the following weekend, but his schedule for officials is otherwise clear, making the Gators appear as a legitimate contender in his recruitment even though they are on the outside looking in.

Long considered the top pass-catcher and No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by the 247Sports composite rankings, the possibility of flipping Smith's commitment from the Buckeyes could be viewed as a litmus test of Napier and his coaching staff's ability to successfully recruit to the extent of the country's blue-blood programs.

Lagway's presence as Florida's future signal-caller should only aid in UF's effort.

After a productive, seven-touchdown sophomore campaign in 2021, the 6-foot-3, 198-pound Smith burst onto the scene with a 58-reception, 1,073-yard, 20-touchdown junior season in 2022.

It was in between those seasons that the Gators sent Smith his fourth career scholarship offer, during Billy Gonzales' second stint as Florida's wide receivers coach, then under former head coach Dan Mullen.

Gonzales returned for a third stint as UF's wide receivers coach in March, another potential benefit for Florida as it attempts to pry Smith away from Ohio State.
