Scouting Report: Florida RB Commitment Kahnen Daniels

Breaking down the film of new Florida Gators running back commitment Kahnen Daniels.

Billy Napier secured running back commitment No. 5 of his year-and-a-half-long tenure as Florida's head coach on Monday, the third from the high school level in the form of West Point (Miss.) High 2024 prospect Kahnen Daniels

Daniels joins North Palm Beach (Fla.) The Benjamin School's Chauncey Bowens as running back commits in the Gators' 2024 recruiting class, projecting to further solidify what has arguably been the team's strongest position under Napier for years to come.

But what skill set does Daniels bring to the table? Find out All Gators' scouting report of his game below.

Gators RB commit Kahnen Daniels scouting report

Size: 5-foot-11, 190 pounds

Stats (2021-22 varsity seasons): 297 rushes for 3,052 yards and 32 touchdowns; 46-of-87 passing for 802 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions

It would appear as though West Point's offense has one general play call that can be deployed from a variety of looks: Put the ball in Kahnen Daniels' hands.

His utilization is reflected as such, well beyond the duties of a traditional running back. Daniels routinely takes snaps as a Wildcat quarterback to eliminate the handing-off process of a rushing play, oftentimes with at least nine blockers ahead of him including two lead blockers aligned in the backfield pre-snap.

A wide receiver frequently motions into the backfield for reverses and jet sweeps, as well as fake attempts of each concept where the Wildcat QB will ultimately keep the ball and run. Daniels has mans both roles regularly.

Regardless of how he gets it, Daniels is a big play waiting to happen when the pigskin is in his possession. He's averaged 10 yards per rushing attempt or better in his two seasons as a mainstay in the offense, boosted well above the median thanks to his knack for long rushing scores.

While Daniels may not possess the elite top-end speed of other running backs in the class of 2024, he has everything else in terms of general speed and elusiveness.

Strong field vision allows Daniels to survey the tackle box and quickly decide where to cut and go with the ball, which he accomplishes with a quick first step downhill and ample burst to scoot by defensive linemen and gap-shooting linebackers at the first level of the defense.

Shifty behind the line of scrimmage, Daniels has a tendency to push plays horizontally before making a move to get vertical on a dime. His sharp cuts should translate well to zone scheme rushes as a traditional ball carrier.

Daniels' vision and agility allow him to make finesse moves in the open field to extend rushes. He showcases fluid hips, patient feet and flexible legs while changing direction and/or evading defenders, and good contact balance to break tackles when defenders do make contact with him, specifically when they aim low for his feet.

West Point's loaded offensive front has helped prevent wear and tear on Daniels' body, too. Rarely will he rush straight up the gut into a swarm of defenders, instead, the scheme is designed to offer him easy access to the open field where his athleticism can shine.

As a result, despite his high usage rate, Daniels should have plenty of tread left on his tires when he gets to the next level.

Florida's blocking schemes and running back usage will, obviously, be drastically different than what Daniels is used to in West Point's unique offense.

It could take Daniels some time to adjust at Florida compared to Bowens, who has been deployed as a traditional back throughout his career, as a result. But Daniels is certainly talented enough to make a significant impact for the Gators once he truly becomes acclimated at the position he's projected to play.

Star Gators 2024 quarterback pledge DJ Lagway is sure to be pleased with the influx of backfield talent set to surround him in Florida's future offense.
