2025 QB Austin Simmons Commits to Florida Gators
The Gators have effectively pinned down another quarterback of the future in the form of Pahokee (Fla.) High signal caller Austin Simmons as he pledged to Florida on Tuesday morning.
He elects to continue his football career in Gainesville over 24 other options, including Arkansas, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and others. Simmons will operate in a dual-sport capacity at UF as he'll also suit up for Kevin O'Sullivan's baseball squad.
Upon his first trip to Gainesville, the nation's No. 6 ranked QB and No. 56 ranked recruit nationally spoke glowingly of the operation the Gators had in place with Billy Napier and Ryan O'Hara leading the charge in the quarterback room.
"I feel like they're going to be building something in the next two to three years, something great's gonna be coming out of Florida," he told All Gators following a visit in mid-March. "With the incoming 2024 class, I feel like they will make some big noise. With 2025 up next, I feel like you can possibly bring a national championship back to Florida."
He's expressed considerable intrigue in Florida from that point forward, resulting in his commitment on Tuesday.
The left-handed passer possesses an imposing stature at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds to pair with impressive arm talent and a high football IQ. Willing and able to make tough throws into tight windows at all levels, Simmons' arm strength and accuracy present promise for his future in college.
As a sophomore in 2022, he accounted for 3,161 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions on 67.3% completion as he led Pahokee to a 9-3 record.
Florida will have to hone those skills for SEC competition, but his raw talent is undeniable. In addition, he continues to improve as a rushing option.
Simmons becomes the first Gators commit in the 2025 cycle, providing an early anchor at the quarterback spot in next year's class.
The position group currently holds three scholarship players, with Graham Mertz, Jack Miller and Max Brown occupying spots in the room for 2023. In addition, Florida's 2024 QB commit DJ Lagway will join the fold next spring as an early enrollee.
