Recruit Roundup: Week 8 Florida Commit Standouts and Highlights
With Week 8 of the high school football season wrapped up, All Gators has highlighted three of the Gators commits for standout performances in their games last week.
Two of the Gators' committed defenders had solid showings at their primary positions but were also able to find the end zone on the offensive side of the ball. And quarterback commit DJ Lagway continued his stellar year with his highest passing total of the season helping Willis secure an 8-0 record for the first time in over 50 years.
Xavier Filsaime, McKinney (Texas) High
Filsaime made the switch from receiver to defensive back after his sophomore season, and since then, he hasn't seen much action on the offensive side of the ball.
But on Friday night, he had a chance to show that he can still make an impact on offense as he took his only touch, a jet-sweep, 69 yards to the house for McKinney's only touchdown of the game.
He also racked up eight total tackles, but his impressive performance wasn't enough as the Lions lost their first game of the season to the Allen Eagles.
On the season, Filsaime has 42 total tackles, two forced fumbles and five passes defended through seven games.
Jamonta Waller, Picayune (Miss.) High
Waller has been an absolute menace off the edge for the Picayune Maroon Tide and Friday night was just the next chapter in that continued story.
The talented edge defender was able to log four total tackles, including two for loss and a sack. But it was his production on offense that really caught the attention of the All Gators' staff.
Waller caught two passes for 40 yards from the tight end position, including a 15-yard touchdown.
Through seven games, Waller has tallied 39 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
DJ Lagway, Willis (Texas)
Lagway continues to put up absurd numbers on a weekly basis as his Willis Wildkats have sustained an impressive run through Texas' 6A classification. However, this past week may have been Lagway's most impressive performance to date.
On the night, the 247sports Composite five-star prospect went 26-of-30 passing for a season-high 543 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran the ball six times for 43 yards and another score in Willis' blowout victory.
Through eight games, Lagway has amassed over 3,200 total yards and 47 total touchdowns.
