Gators Safety Target Xavier Filsaime Drops Top Five

Elite safety prospect Xavier Filsaime releases top five including the Florida Gators.

Elite 2024 safety prospect Xavier Filsaime released his top five schools list Wednesday afternoon, including the Florida Gators alongside Georgia, LSU, Oregon and USC.

Rated as the No. 3 safety in the 2024 class, the McKinney (Texas) product possesses the length, speed and athleticism Corey Raymond covets in a defensive back prospect.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Filsaime presents the prototypical build for a starting power five third-level defender. He accompanies his size with impressive closing speed when working downhill against ball carriers and coverage skills to match up both man-to-man with slot receivers and tight ends when called upon.

He also shows playmaking ability when operating in one or two-high zone coverage.

As a result, Filsaime projects to be a game-changing entity in the back end of his future college defense. He accounted for 76 tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries as a junior.

The borderline five-star prospect, per 247Sports Composite Rankings, recently visited the University of Florida in mid-March, a trek that positioned the Gators well to land his services when an eventual commitment decision is made. A return visit to Gainesville is expected for Florida's Orange and Blue Spring Game on April 13. There, the Gators will get another opportunity to lure Filsaime in their direction.

He sits as one of the top prospects on Raymond's safety board this cycle, a position he is newly in charge of following Patrick Toney's departure to the Arizona Cardinals earlier this offseason.

Filsaime has not set a date for his eventual commitment decision.
