Social Media Reacts to DL LJ McCray’s Gators Commitment
Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.) defensive lineman LJ McCray pledged himself to the Gators on Saturday afternoon, adding another elite defender to the already robust assortment of talent accumulated by Florida in 2024.
The five star's alignment with UF sent social media into a frenzy, with several staff members, current players, 2024 commits and others expressing their excitement for the move.
All Gators compiled some of the best acknowledgements of the monumental addition to the Gators class below.
Florida head coach Billy Napier tweeted his patent prospect-landing sunglasses emoji soon after McCray's announcement went public but provided an extra emphasis to signal the magnitude of the win on the trail.
McCray's position coach Sean Spencer, edge coach Mike Peterson, linebackers coach Jay Bateman and head strength coach Mark Hocke — who each played a role in luring McCray to Florida — expressed gratification for their hard work since the Daytona Beach products June 2022 offer.
Key members of the Gators off-field assistant and recruiting staff got in on the action to voice their elation for the "BYE WEEK W."
Player personnel and recruiting staffer Joe Hamilton kept it simple, but sent a message to signal that the 2024 class is far from complete.
"Still stacking," he said.
Aside from the Florida staff, several current Florida Gators showed they were privy to the importance of landing a player the caliber of McCray. Most notably, true freshman Kelby Collins, who occupies the position McCray will step into, has served as a vocal player-recruiter for the Sunshine State prospect since he officially visited on the first weekend of June.
Collins joined the party with a simple smiley face.
He was notably joined by fellow true freshman and 2023 recruit wide receiver Aidan Mizell. and veteran linebacker Teradja Mitchell.
Finally, McCray's 2024 classmates and pre-existing UF pledges, of course, were happy to get the frontline disruptor in the mix, including prized quarterback DJ Lagway.
The Gators reclaim the No. 3 spot of 2024 recruiting class, according 247Sports Composite Rankings, with the addition of McCray. They'll look to maintain that top five standing down the stretch of the cycle.
