Florida is among the top ten programs left standing in Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater 2024 cornerback Cai Bates' recruitment, he announced via On3 Sports on Wednesday.

After trimming his list of 43 offers by over 75 percent, the Gators remain in contention for Bates' services along with LSU, Tennessee, UCF, Texas A&M, Alabama, FSU, Colorado, Ohio State and Maryland.

Bates received an offer from the Gators during his first unofficial visit to campus, for Florida's Orange and Blue spring scrimmage on April 13. Despite UF's late entrance into his recruitment, Bates found himself immediately attracted to the program due to the presence of established defensive backs coach Corey Raymond.

“The school [is] close to home, coach Raymond and his résumé. Every DB that he’s had a chance to coach comes up big and has a great chance of making it to the league,” Bates explained to All Gators in April. “His resume speaks for itself.”

The 6-foot-1.5, 180-pound Bates is considered the No. 17 cornerback and No. 223 overall prospect in the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

A former wide receiver, Bates moved into the secondary as a junior and produced four interceptions and seven pass breakups. FBS programs immediately took notice as Bates has reeled in the majority of his scholarship opportunities since Dec. 2022.

Bates intends to finalize his college commitment ahead of his senior 2023 season. He is scheduled to officially visit Alabama (June 2-4), Tennessee (June 16-18) and LSU (June 23-25) this summer.
