WR Jerrae Hawkins Names Gators to Top 3 Ahead of Official Visit
Head coach Billy Napier’s desire to find pass catchers of varying shapes and skill sets proved fruitful during the 2023 class as Andy Jean, Eugene Wilson III and Aidan Mizell elected to suit up in orange and blue collegiately.
As the endeavor continues in the current recruitment period, news concerning Florida’s top targets continues to arise.
On Thursday, Gators wide receiver prospect Jerrae Hawkins Jr. narrowed his list of contenders from six to three via Instagram, placing Florida in good standing to acquire his services alongside Miami and Penn State.
The IMG Academy slot pass catcher is scheduled to officially visit the Gators June 9-11, where wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales will look to impress Hawkins ahead of his June 26 commitment date.
He's fresh off a visit to Miami June 2-4 and will trek to Penn State June 23-25 before mulling over his final decision.
Shining as an uber-productive option in the passing game for Wheeling Park High School, the West Virginia native compiled 67 receptions for 1,173 yards (17.5 yards per catch) and 14 touchdowns during his junior season to bolster his resume as a prospect significantly. It led to a significant uptick in interest from Power Five programs nationwide at the turn of the year.
His reported 4.3 40-yard dash and 10.3 100-meter dash times as a track star further aided his meteoric rise.
Florida is one of the teams that came calling in the early stages of 2023, extending him an offer on March 1. He’s since become their slot receiver of choice in the cycle. He possesses the speed in space and big-play threat UF yearns for within its wideout corps of the future.
As a result, Gonzales, Napier and Co. look to acquire him to pair with fellow speedster Izaiah Williams (Carrollwood Day) in the commitment class as weapons for franchise quarterback commit DJ Lagway.
Several spots remain to be filled for the position in 2024.
