UF DL Target Brien Taylor Jr. To Announce Commitment This Week
GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- During his weekend official visit to Florida on Sunday, JUCO defensive line transfer target Brien Taylor Jr. revealed he knows what his next school will be, he told All Gators.
The Blinn College prospect will choose between Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Auburn with an announcement coming via X and Instagram either "Monday or Tuesday," he said.
Recapping his visit, Taylor spoke on how he got to see more of the university.
"When I first got here, it was strictly football, but I got to see more of UF," Taylor said. "See what everyday life is like for the students like working with me, going out and that type of stuff."
Taylor also noted how Florida not only emphasizes football but also each player's lives off of the field, especially Florida's No. 1 public school ranking.
"They make you know when you come in, it ain't just football," he said. "They're going to make sure you're [good] for life as a man. It's somewhere to be for sure."
Florida recently made a coaching change in the DL room by parting ways with Sean Spencer, who is now at Texas A&M. The Gators have yet to announce his replacement and have defensive graduate assistant Kali James Jr. stepping into his place for recruiting purposes.
Even without a full-time position coach, Taylor Jr. said Florida still stands out to him.
"I wouldn't say it deterred me," he said. "The staff and everybody made sure to do a good job. Make sure that even though Coach Spencer's gone, I'm still a priority."
EDGE coach Mike Peterson has also been heavily involved in Taylor Jr.'s recruitment, due to his ability to play both inside and outside. Considering the loss of Princely Umanmielen to the transfer portal, Taylor Jr.'s recruitment has become of even more importance in recent days.
"[Peterson] is a real good dude," Taylor said. "Made sure I know I can come here and work. Build step-by-step."
Should Taylor Jr. commit to Florida, he would be the first incoming transfer announcement for the 2024 class and join high school commits LJ McCray, Amaris Williams and Michai Boireau on Florida’s defensive front.
