BREAKING: Florida State Lands First Transfer of the Offseason

The Seminoles are bringing in a prospect that should provide a much-needed scoring punch next season.

Six weeks after the season ended for the Seminoles, they finally landed their first transfer of the offseason in La Salle graduate transfer Josh Nickelberry. Nickelberry is a former 4-star prospect from Fayetteville, NC who started his career at Louisville before transferring to La Salle. He never played much in his two seasons with the Cardinals but averaged 11 PPG and 2.7 RPG in his two seasons at La Salle.

The 6-foot-4 guard isn’t much of a playmaker, holding just a career 50 total assists in 87 games, but Nickelberry can fill up the basket in a hurry on occasion. He has a career-high of 28 points and 10 games with at least 5 made threes. He blossomed into a threat from distance at La Salle, where he shot 38.3% from three on almost six attempts per game.

I don’t expect him to be a starter for this year’s team, but he’ll provide quality depth as a good shooter off of the bench, something FSU didn’t have last year. Chandler Jackson shot 37.5% from 3 last year, but it was just on one attempt per game; the next closest bench player was Baba Miller at 25%. This team needed spacing and shooting badly, something Nickelberry should accomplish.

We’re expecting some players in the portal soon on Florida State’s side, as we’ve seen Matthew Cleveland and Caleb Mills depart from the program to do. The Seminoles are trying to get Hofstra guard Aaron Estrada on campus as well as Georgetown guard Primo Spears, two dynamic scorers, and we’ll see if any others make it.
