Florida State Contacts FIU Guard Transfer
Head coach Leonard Hamilton stated before the end of the season that they’re going to be aggressive in the transfer portal, and we’re starting to learn who they’re chasing. After contacting Temple transfer Khalif Battle and Louisiana Tech transfer Cobe Williams (before he committed to Tulsa) earlier this week. they’ve now reached out to FIU transfer Denver Jones.
Jones, who just completed his sophomore season, averaged 20.1 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 2.0 APG while shooting 47.8% from the floor and 37.1% from 3. At 6’5”, he’d have good size in FSU’s system, and has averaged 1.3 SPG in his two seasons. Florida Stage is going to have some competition for him, as he’s also heard from Auburn, Arkansas, Missouri, Minnesota, and others. I imagined he’s going to be looking for a place to win after FIU went 14-18 this season.
While we’re still waiting for players from FSU’s side to hit the portal, we’re expecting 3-4 players to enter the portal following a dismal 9-23 season. FSU needs a change in the locker room and a talent infusion, so it’s a little surprising we haven’t seen any movement out of the team yet.
We’ll keep an eye on Jones’ transfer recruitment and if FSU remains involved. A lot of players that are already in the portal are moving quickly to set up in-home visits and a lot of people have committed already, so FSU will have to stay on top of this if they are that interested.
