Florida State's Jamir Watkins Named ACC Co-Player of the Week
Florida State forward Jamir Watkins has been named ACC Co-Player of the Week after averaging 18.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 6.0 APG, and 2.0 SPG in two wins over UNLV and Colorado last week on his way to being named tournament MVP of the Sunshine Slam. He splits the award with UNC's RJ Davis, and is the first Seminole to win an ACC Player of the Week award since RaiQuan Gray won it on February 15, 2021.
Florida State is currently off to a 4-1 start and received eight votes in the AP Poll this week after last week's tournament win. Watkins has been a revelation for a team that was 9-23 last season, doing anything and everything necessary to win basketball games. Against UNLV, his playmaking was paramount, finishing with 19 points and 8 assists, leading the team in both categories. Next game against Colorado, he posts a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals, leading the team in assists and rebounding.

For a player that averaged just 9.0 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.1 APG, and 1.0 SPG in two seasons at VCU, Watkins has taken a massive step forward in production across the board, while being more efficient from the floor; not something you see every day. This was a great find by Leonard Hamilton and his staff.
