North Carolina State Dominates Florida State, 94-66

The Seminoles were taken to the woodshed on Wednesday night.

This one was over from the beginning. FSU led 2-0, and that was followed by a 30-2 run by the Wolfpack, just an insane pace of scoring from NC State. They were getting everything to fall, FSU couldn't buy a bucket. Was just one of those games. By the time FSU had even 6 points with 10 minutes left in the half, they had just as many turnovers and fouls. Not much you can say. They were getting dominated in every facet; rebounding, shooting, turnovers... even just being pushed around by DJ Burns Jr (which granted, a lot of people do).

What is there to recap? FSU wasn't communicating defensively whatsoever, didn't hit a 3 until five minutes into the second half after NC State hit 9 in the first half alone, and could never string together any stops. Hard to win basketball games that way. FSU never got the lead below 16 in the second half as NC State cruised to a 94-66 win. 94 points is the most FSU has allowed all season.

I don't even know who to highlight here, no one was really good. Cameron Corhen had moments taking advantage of no real rim defender, but he was being pushed around by DJ Burns whenever he was in the game. Once Burns was out, Corhen was able to get some layups, be in better defensive positioning, and led the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds before fouling out, but he also had 5 turnovers.

Caleb Mills did most of his scoring from the free throw line, though he did have one really pretty move in the first move that resulted in a nice layup. Darin Green Jr was given no open looks in the first half, and all of his 13 points came in the second half. I'd love to find ways to get him open more often.

Matthew Cleveland was trying his hardest to attack the basket and get some looks, but they were tough to come by in this one. He went down awkwardly in the second half and left the game briefly, but came back in soon after. He finished with 12 points and just 3 rebounds.

Terquavion Smith took an insane amount of shots in this one, but he hit two 3s to start this game which gave him a bunch of confidence (not that he needed any). He finished with 32 points on 24 shots.

DJ Burns Jr had a cult following in this game, which makes sense after his incredible performance last time out. Every time he caught the ball, everyone was cheering. At one point, he was given a standing ovation and the crowd was chanting his name. He's built like a defensive tackle, but has a really soft touch around the basket. It really felt like he had a lot more than 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Jarkel Joiner had a big impact on this game as well with 14 points.

FSU will be back on the court Saturday as they take on Louisville in the KFC Yum Center. That should be... something.
