VCU Forward Transfer, Brother of Kalen DeLoach lists Florida State in Top-6

The Seminoles are in the running for a transfer who has family ties to Florida State.

Florida State is looking to overhaul its roster this offseason following a 9-23 campaign last season that was the worst for the program since 2000-01 when the team also won nine games. The 23 losses were the most in a single season in program history.

The Seminoles are exploring multiple options in the NCAA Transfer Portal and have been doing their due diligence over the last couple of weeks.

On Tuesday, VCU forward transfer Jalen DeLoach released a Top-6 that included Florida State, San Diego State, VCU, Miami, Indiana, and Penn State while hinting at an upcoming decision. DeLoach is the younger brother of redshirt junior linebacker Kalen DeLoach, who is expected to play a pivotal role for the football team in 2023.

FSU's coaching staff has gotten into contact with DeLoach over the past couple of days. There's hope that the Seminoles will be able to schedule a visit with him in the near future. NoleGameday has been informed that he'll be checking out Miami and Indiana in the near future. Returning to VCU remains an option after his coach - Mike Rhoades - departed for the job at Penn State following the season.

The Georgia native is coming off a sophomore season where he developed into a starting forward for VCU. He started in 32 of his 34 appearances, averaging 9.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.4 blocks in 25.4 minutes per game. DeLoach shot 56.2% from the field and 58% from the line.

Standing at 6-foot-9, 215-pounds he fits the bill for Florida State as a player who can defend multiple positions. While he has yet to attempt a shot from distance during his college career, DeLoach is a classic big who consistently works in the paint. He fights around the rim for a variety of putbacks and dunks while displaying solid instincts as a passer.

DeLoach reached the double-figures mark in 19 games last season, including a career-high 19 points (9/11 FG) and seven rebounds in a victory at Saint Joseph's. He's expected to have two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
