BREAKING: Florida State Hopped By Washington Huskies In Latest College Football Playoff Rankings
The Seminoles lost their starting quarterback during the home finale win over North Alabama. The team will be relying on redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker to command the offense moving forward. That won't be easy with Florida State moving into a difficult stretch where the program will match up with Florida and Louisville in consecutive weeks.
It appears that the playoff committee took the season-ending injury to Jordan Travis into account when debating the updated rankings. On Tuesday night, the latest College Football Playoff Rankings were debuted live on ESPN ahead of Week 13. The Seminoles dropped to No. 5 in the country with Washington moving in front of them. That means if the postseason began today, FSU would find itself on the outside looking in of the playoff field.
BREAKING: Seminoles Announce Starting Quarterback Jordan Travis Is Out For Year Due To Injury
The top six were made up of No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Washington, No. 5 Florida State, and No. 6 Oregon. That means the Bulldogs would be matching up with the Huskies while the Buckeyes and Wolverines would face off to decide who makes the national championship game in Houston. The Seminoles and Ducks would be the first two teams on the outside of the playoff bubble.
Other notable teams inside the CFP top-25 rankings include No. 9 Louisville, No. 14 LSU, and No. 24 Clemson. The Seminoles accumulated a 31-24 overtime victory over Clemson, who have won three straight, in Death Valley in September. Florida State holds a 45-24 victory over LSU, who defeated Georgia State, 56-14, over the weekend. The Cardinals clinched a berth in the ACC Championship with a victory over Miami on Saturday. Louisville will be a top-10 team in Charlotte if the program can finish off its regular season against Kentucky.
Outside of their selection in the College Football Playoff Rankings, Florida State slotted in at No. 5 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll this week. The Seminoles secured their 50th bowl appearance in program history earlier this year and will play in the conference championship next weekend for the first time since 2014.
FSU has won 17 consecutive games dating back to last season, the third-longest streak in the nation and second-longest streak in program history. The Seminoles have been ranked in the top 5 for twelve consecutive weeks and haven't allowed an opponent to score 30 points this year.
Florida State will cap off its regular season with a rivalry matchup against the Florida Gators on Saturday evening. The game will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
