It's clear that Florida State has a ton of expectations this upcoming season, not only internally but also externally. Following a ten-win campaign a year ago where the Seminoles defeated Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl, the country is looking to them to return to consistent national relevance.

On Monday, the preseason Associated Press Top 25 Poll was released. Florida State broke into the top 10 for the first time in six years, slotting in at No. 8. That's a climb of three spots from where the program sat in the final poll last season. The complete AP Top 25 Poll can be viewed here.

Looking at the remainder of the poll, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, USC, and Penn State are the seven teams ranked higher than Florida State. Clemson and Washington. round out the teams in the inaugural Top 10. Florida and Miami did not make the poll.

The ranking marks the highest that the Seminoles have been regarded in the Top 25 Polls to begin a season since former head coach Jimbo Fisher was at the helm in 2017. FSU began that year ranked No. 3 before losing to Alabama in Week 1 and ultimately finishing 7-6 after Fisher left for Texas A&M.

The release of the AP Top-25 Poll officially confirms that Florida State and LSU will open the year as a top-10 non-conference matchup. FSU was also ranked No. 8 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, making the program the highest-ranked team in the ACC.

The Seminoles are bringing back the bulk of their two-deep on both sides of the ball from 2022 while adding in one of the top transfer classes in the country. The offense will be led by quarterback Jordan Travis and a variety of playmakers that include running back Trey Benson, wide receiver Johnny Wilson, wide receiver Keon Coleman, and tight end Jaheim Bell.

Don't sleep on the defense that led the ACC last season either. Star defensive end Jared Verse is back in the fold along with an extremely deep interior defensive line. The linebackers return their top three players and the defensive backfield has growing expectations under first year position coach Patrick Surtain Sr.

The Seminoles begin their 2023 campaign against the LSU Tigers in Orlando, FL, at Camping World Stadium on Sunday, September 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
