BREAKING: Promising Defensive Lineman Announces Intentions to Enter Transfer Portal

Three Seminoles have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal during the spring, including two in the last two days.

The NCAA Transfer Portal is back open for business with the spring window spanning 15 days from April 15-30. Activity is already ramping up and Florida State has seen a couple of players depart from the program.

On Tuesday afternoon, redshirt freshman defensive tackle Antavious Woody announced on social media that he was entering the portal. This comes as a bit of a surprise as he was just beginning his second year with the program.

"I will be entering my name into the transfer portal," Woody wrote.

At the same time, it's hard to be that shocked by the departure due to the amount of depth that Florida State has along the interior of its defensive line. The Seminoles are bringing back experienced players such as Fabien Lovett, Dennis Briggs, Joshua Farmer, and Malcolm Ray. They've also added Braden Fiske and Darrell Jackson into the fold while redshirt freshman Daniel Lyons is showing positive signs.

Those developments simply meant Woody and a couple of other players in the room are unlikely to receive a ton of playing time in 2023. Regardless, the Seminoles still hold three other redshirt freshman defensive tackles - Lyons, Bishop Thomas, and Ayobami Tifase.

Woody began his career in Tallahassee as an offensive lineman but ended up moving to the defensive line during the regular season. His physicality was evident but he still has a ways to go as far as mastering the fundamentals of the position. Woody didn't appear in a game during his true freshman season and redshirted while working with the scout team.

The Alabama native signed with Florida State over in-state Auburn as a member of the 2022 recruiting class. He's the second player in that class to transfer from the program, joining Sam McCall, who is now at Texas A&M.

Woody is the third Seminole to enter the Transfer Portal this spring. Graduate transfer defensive end Derrick McLendon entered the portal last month while veteran linebacker Brendan Gant entered yesterday.

More departures are yet to come with the Seminoles still needing to shed a couple more scholarships.
