Florida State Comes in at No. 3 in ESPN Post-Spring Power Rankings

Pre-season hype continues to build around the 'Noles.

Spring camp is over, and the NCAA Transfer window has closed, bringing exciting storylines nationwide. Florida State took some lumps and bruises with starting defensive end Derrick McLendon II and wide receiver Mycah Pittman entering their names in the portal, followed by reserves safeties Omarion Cooper and Travis Jay, as well as linebackers Stephen Dix Jr. and Brendan Gant.

ESPN released their post-spring Top-25 power rankings, and the Seminoles came in at No. 3 behind the Michigan Wolverines (2) and the Georgia Bulldogs (1). Meanwhile, two teams they are set to play in the regular season made the cut; a week one showdown against LSU (7) and Clemson (9), who they play on the road in week four.

The Seminoles are poised to return 85% of their overall production from 2022, with potential Heisman candidate quarterback Jordan Travis grading out at 91.7, according to PFF. Running back Trey Benson and wide receiver Johnny Wilson are both ranked seventh out of 10 in the country at their respective positions, and the team also boasts veteran and incoming talent at running back, offensive line, and wide receiver.

On defense, playmakers such as team sack leader Jared Verse and Fabien Lovett are paired with ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year Patrick Payton, Darrell Jackson Jr., Gilber Edmond, and Joshua Farmer up front. In the middle, linebackers Kalen DeLoach and DJ Lundy will provide a strong presence, while safeties Shyheim Brown and Akeem Dent plan to shut down the back end.

The Seminoles are still looking to patch up some holes in the secondary and depth lost overall but have mitigated those losses thus far through recruiting and the transfer portal.
