Florida State Head Coach Mike Norvell Discusses Health Of The Team

Norvell provided an update on where the Seminoles stand injury-wise through the first week of preseason camp.

The Florida State Seminoles wrapped practice one of their two-day trip to the University of North Florida which is hosting the team in Jacksonville. It was an intense practice due to the heat and humidity and the fact that it was the first practice in fall camp where they worked out in full pads.

Head coach Mike Norvell met with the media afterward to address a few things with the team, including overall health, and how the 'Noles are progressing as the countdown to their season opener against the LSU Tigers draws near.

"I thought today was a good work day. Obviously for the most part we got all the conditions we were hoping for. Hot, humid, it was a physical practice, trying to throw a lot of different situations at the end at them. Try to force using their minds when they are tired at the end of it," Norvell said. "It was what we were looking for. Some explosive plays on both sides of the ball and some missed opportunities on both sides of the ball and that's where we gotta continue to be consistent in our execution."

There were a few questions asked about the overall health of the team and Norvell quickly explained to the local media in Jacksonville that there shouldn't be a concern about anything serious relating to player injury.

"We haven't had any injuries that are extensive at this point," Norvell said. "Some guys we're limiting in reps on days that there is going to be a heavy workload some guys we're reducing. There are a lot of guys on the team that are going to play a lot of football so we're going to be smart as we go through this camp and continue to develop every player we have."

Florida State has been making the trip to UNF for the last three seasons and Norvell said that he feels it brings the team closer together in addition to the extreme environment and "away" atmosphere.

"For us, it's just being together. last night we had an event I thought was really good with our team. It was an opportunity to bond. Guys that might not be roommates when you're at home come here and now they get to live together for a few days, just continue to build the relationships and I think it's just a great setting for us. I really appreciate North Florida for working with some of us who have been coming here and just seeing the investment in the field and investment in the space. We're really grateful for the opportunity and our guys appreciate the time together."

Norvell goes over the impact of defensive end Jared Verse's return, goes more in-depth into Thursday's practice, and more in his full interview below.
