FSU Football Loses Veteran Defensive Lineman To Transfer Portal
The NCAA Transfer Portal window is closed for players at Florida State but graduate transfers are still allowed to explore their opportunities at any time.
On Friday afternoon, redshirt senior defensive tackle Dennis Briggs Jr. entered the portal. Briggs Jr. exhausted his eligibility last season but is in the process of applying for a waiver to play for a seventh year after missing the majority of 2021 due to a lower-body injury. He informed NoleGameday that he was planning to return to the Seminoles but he is now freely able to communicate with other programs.
Briggs appeared in ten games for the Seminoles in 2023 while battling injuries. He totaled 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hurries. Briggs bounced between defensive end and the interior defensive line throughout his time in garnet and gold.

During his six years in Tallahassee, Briggs recorded 78 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four pass deflections in 49 appearances, with ten starts. He was the longest tenured member of the roster after signing with Florida State under former head coach Willie Taggart in 2018.
The Seminoles are still expected to field a talented interior defensive line that includes redshirt junior Joshua Farmer, redshirt junior Darrell Jackson, redshirt junior Grady Kelly, redshirt sophomore Daniel Lyons, redshirt freshman KJ Sampson, true freshman Jamorie Flagg, and true freshman D'Nas White.
Outside of Briggs, the Seminoles saw quarterback Tate Rodemaker (Southern Miss), quarterback AJ Duffy (San Diego State), Rodney Hill, running back CJ Campbell (FAU), wide receiver Goldie Lawrence (UCF) tight end Markeston Douglas (Arizona State), tight end Preston Daniel (Buffalo), offensive lineman Thomas Shrader (Appalachian State), offensive lineman Bless Harris (TCU), offensive lineman Daughtry Richardson (FAU), offensive lineman Qae'shon Sapp (ECU), defensive end Gilber Edmond, defensive tackle Malcolm Ray (Rutgers), defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase (Georgia Tech), linebacker Dylan Brown-Turner (UTEP), and kicker Tyler Keltner (Oklahoma) enter the portal during the recent transfer window that closed on January 4.
