Florida State Star Defensive Tackle Declares for 2024 NFL Draft
There are less than two weeks remaining in Florida State's 2023 season. With the Orange Bowl against Georgia beginning to close in, multiple players on the roster have publicly revealed their intentions, whether that means entering the NCAA Transfer Portal or testing the professional waters.
On Sunday morning, Florida State star defensive tackle Fabien Lovett Sr. announced on social media that he is declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. While he didn't flat out say it, the wording in Lovett's farewell message makes it seem like he won't be suiting up for the Seminoles against the Bulldogs.
If not, Lovett ends his senior campaign with 22 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, and three pass deflections while appearing in all 13 games as a major piece of the defensive line rotation. His impact alongside Braden Fiske and Joshua Farmer was paramount in Florida State's resurgence upfront.
Former Florida State Quarterback Heading Back West To Continue College Career
"First I'd like to thank God for blessing me to be in this position. To Mississippi State University and the coaches who first gave me a chance, thank you.
To Florida State University, thank you for taking a kid from Vicksburg Mississippi and bringing me in as your own. Being part of the university and everything that comes with being a Nole has changed my life forever.
To my coaches and staff, thank you for pushing me everyday, for believing in me and for being such a big part of this journey. Each of you played a vital role on getting me to the next step in my journey.
To my Seminole brothers, the brotherhood and bond we share is something special. There isn't any other group of guys I would have rather been on this climb with than you. What we did was special and can never be taken from us. Forever and always a Nole.
With all this being said, one chapter closes and another one begins. I am officially declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. Let the work begin.
Agent 0 Out."
Lovett spent four years in Tallahassee after beginning his career at Mississippi State. He transferred to Florida State in 2020 alongside Jarrian Jones. While he dealt with various injuries throughout his time with the Seminoles, Lovett has been a key figure on the field and in the locker room as the program has climbed back to the top of college football.
The Mississippi native appeared in 39 games, with 18 starts, while in garnet and gold. He totaled 74 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, and four pass deflections at Florida State.
The veteran defensive lineman is the second member of FSU's roster to declare for the draft and opt out of the Orange Bowl. Star wide receiver Johnny Wilson made the same decision earlier in December.
