Florida State Star QB Jordan Travis Finishes 5th in Heisman Trophy Voting

Travis had a case to be in New York at the Heisman Trophy Ceremony.

Florida State Quarterback Jordan Travis finished 5th in Heisman voting as the top-10 spots were unveiled on Friday evening. It's the second time this week FSU has finished 5th without an invite, as they were snubbed from the 2023 College Football Playoff finishing 5th, and this time Jordan Travis didn't get the invitation for the Heisman Trophy Ceremony in New York despite placing in the top 5.

While the winner won't be announced until Saturday night, the heavy favorite as of now is LSU QB Jayden Daniels, who had his worst game of the season against Florida State to start the year. The other candidates in the top 4 are Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Oregon QB Bo Nix, and Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.

Jordan Travis suffered a broken leg (and likely more) at the end of the first quarter against North Alabama on November 18. The College Football Playoff Committee used the injury to Travis as the difference between them getting into the Playoffs and them being left out in favor of Texas and Alabama, since "they're a different team without him."

On the season, Travis threw for 2,576 passing yards and 20 touchdowns to just two interceptions, while rushing for another 7 touchdowns and 176 yards, and was awarded ACC Player of the Year and ACC Offensive Player of the Year. He certainly didn't have the gaudy stats of some of the candidates ahead of him, but his team was successful, and I think the team being left out of the Playoffs led to a small boost in Heisman voting for him. 

Travis leaves Florida State as its all-time leader in touchdowns, total offense, and QB rushing yards, while placing 2nd in passing touchdowns, passing yards, and wins as a QB. He was also named First-Team All-ACC this season and Second-Team All-ACC in 2022.
