Florida State's Mike Norvell Discusses Juggling Act Heading Into ACC Championship Game
There seems to be a lot on Florida State head coach Mike Norvell's plate these days. The Seminoles are ranked No. 4 in the country and are a perfect 12-0 on the year. The ACC Championship Game against No. 15 Louisville is approaching this weekend, and a looming transfer portal window is opening alongside the early signing period in December.

Mike Norvell met with the media after Tuesday's practice in prep for the ACC Championship and touched on the challenges surrounding the three situations over the coming weeks.
"It's extremely challenging. Somebody asked me yesterday; they said, 'What's the difference in college football when you play in a championship game?' One of the good things I would say is that at least there's a dead period for this week," Norvell said about the balancing act between the transfer portal, early signing day, and playing in a championship game."
The transfer portal opens on December 4, and players are able to look for greener pastures if they feel another institution is a better fit. Conversations are happening this week to decide which path a player should remain on to be successful in their college careers.
"I know most schools are meeting with their players, having those one-on-one conversations, and getting an understanding for the next steps," Norvell said.
Florida State currently holds the No. 3 recruiting class, according to 247Sports, and many of the commits will be signing later this month. That can present a challenge when your team is poised for a playoff berth and preparing for the ACC Championship. All the moving parts could present a challenge, but Norvell said that organization is something his staff prides themselves on.
"You see, with the early signing date, every minute matters. So, we try to be as efficient and organized as possible to make sure we're getting a good balance," Norvell said. "When it comes to evaluations of players that might be available or just constant communication with the guys we are recruiting, preparing a game plan this week for the championship game, it's a lot. But I'm grateful to be in that position for the opportunity. You've got to be very organized, and we take a lot of pride in trying to be efficient with that."
Norvell and the Seminoles will take on the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, December 2, at 8:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
