Florida State's Trey Benson Named Top 10 Running Back for 2023 Season

The redshirt junior ranked amongst the top 10 best running backs, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Florida State Seminoles finished with one of the most explosive offenses in the country last season, led by Heisman candidate quarterback Jordan Travis and a stable of running backs that featured Trey Benson, Lawrance Toafili and Treshaun Ward. The 'Noles are projected to return over 75 percent of their production on offense from last season. Many players, including Travis and Benson, are opting to forego the 2023 NFL Draft to pursue a National Championship.

Pro Football Focus released a list of the top ten highest-graded running backs who will suit up in 2023, and Benson landed in the No. 7 spot with an overall grade of 88.5.

Benson appeared in all 13 games last season and started in six after transferring from the Oregon Ducks in the offseason. Many were worried about an injury he had at his previous school, which caused him to miss 2020, but that was quickly dispelled the first time you saw the redshirt junior don the Garnet and Gold. His season-high three rushing touchdowns came late in the year against the Florida Gators, but it was apparent all season that FSU had someone special.

The Greenville, Mississippi native finished 2022 with 990 rushing yards and nine scores on 154 carries while catching 15 passes for 144. He also contributed on special teams as a kick returner with five kickoff returns for 192 yards and a touchdown. He was also named second-team All-ACC and received ACC Running Back of the Week four times.

Benson was ranked first in the ACC in yards per carry, 13th nationally. It is no surprise that he is topping the charts heading into next season.
