Former Florida State Quarterback Enters NCAA Transfer Portal For Second Time

The former Seminole is back on the market as a graduate transfer.

Thousands of players around the country are searching for new homes in the NCAA Transfer Portal. For some, it's not the first time that they've utilized the avenue to explore their options elsewhere.

Over the weekend, former Florida State quarterback Gino English announced that he was entering the portal as a graduate transfer. English spent the 2023 season at the FCS level after transferring to Gardner-Webb during the offseason. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.

English decided to move on from the Seminoles to the Bulldogs in an effort to have a chance at a starting role and a scholarship. Unfortunately, he ended up losing the quarterback battle at Gardner-Webb and spent the majority of the season backing up Jacksonville State transfer Matthew Caldwell and true freshman Jaylen King.

The Florida native appeared in all 12 games, completing 6/15 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown while also adding nine carries and a score on the ground. Both of his touchdowns came in a 45-44 overtime victory against Bryant.

English began his college career at Florida State as a walk-on. During his four years with the program, he only made one appearance while contributing as a scout team quarterback. English joined the Seminoles under former head coach Willie Taggart but stuck around when current head coach Mike Norvell took over the program.

His lone appearance in garnet and gold came in 2022 during FSU's 49-17 win against Louisiana. English completed 2/2 passes for 16 yards rushing one time for -5 yards. He was named the Co-Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year at the conclusion of the season.

Garder-Webb finished 7-5 and made the first round of the FCS playoffs this past season. The program recently hired Cris Reisert after former head coach Tre Lamb was hired away by East Tennessee State. That could be a potential landing spot for English.
