Former FSU Head Coach Officially Fired By Texas A&M
It appears former Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher's time in College Station has come to an end. It was reported on Sunday that Texas A&M and the sixth-year head coach will part ways in what will be one of the largest coaching buyouts in college football history.
Rumors swirling around Fisher's ability to lead the Aggies were confirmed by leadership.
Texas A&M Athletic Director Ross Bjork released a statement stating, "After careful analysis of all the components related to Texas A&M Football, I recommended that President Welsh and then Chancellor Sharp that a change in the leadership of the program was necessary in order for Aggie football to reach our full potential and they accepted my decision."
With eight years remaining on his contract and more than $75 million fully guaranteed, the buyout, along with staff buyouts and hires, could reach over $150 million, making it one of the largest in history. Fisher has gone 45-25 in his six seasons as the head coach but has been below .500 since 2020. The Aggies are coming off a 51-10 victory over Mississippi State, but the university clearly stated that they were ready to move on.
"We appreciate Coach Fisher's time and we wish him the best in his future endeavors."
The NCAA rules state that if a head coach is fired midseason players will have a 30-day transfer window to find a different school and after the news players are already jumping ship.
Texas A&M currently holds the ninth-ranked recruiting class in the country according to 247Sports.com and there will likely be more transfers and decommitments to come.
With the resources a program like Texas A&M has there will be no shortage of names on who they decide to replace Fisher with.
