FSU Football Loses Commitment From Elite Legacy Wide Receiver
Recruiting is fluid and always changing. Sometimes the prospects who once felt like a lock end up doing the unexpected.
That's what happened on Monday evening as Florida State lost a commitment from legacy four-star wide receiver and rising junior, Devin Carter. The 2026 blue-chip recruit is re-opening his recruitment following a season where he established himself as one of the top players in his class.
Former FSU Football QB Announces Third Transfer Destination
Carter caught 51 passes for 923 yards and 13 touchdowns for Cedar Grove High School to lead the program to a victory in the state championship. That followed up a freshman campaign where he totaled 30 catches for 417 yards and six touchdowns along with participating in the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl.
The Georgia native committed to Florida State back in April, seemingly to follow in his father's footsteps. Carter is the son of former Seminole running back Devin Carter, who starred in Tallahassee from 1986-89. Carter was a dual-sport athlete at the college level before winning a Super Bowl during his seven-year professional career.
Carter's decision to back off his pledge to FSU came on the same day when Georgia head coach Kirby Smart visited his school. The Bulldogs offered him a scholarship in March of 2023.
With his decommitment, Florida State has two pledges remaining in #Tribe26; four-star wide receiver Efrem White and defensive back Darryl Bell III. The Seminoles dropped from the No. 1 class in the nation to the No. 6 spot.
The 6-foot, 165-pound wide receiver is regarded as the No. 35 overall prospect, the No. 3 WR, and the No. 5 recruit in the state of Georgia in the 2026 class according to 247Sports.
