FSU Football Quarterback Trever Jackson Looks To Find His Place With The Seminoles
Coming into his senior year of high school, Trever Jackson was touted as one of the best quarterbacks in the state of Florida. That was in large part due to his impressive performance at the Elite 11, an annual competition between the top prep signal-callers in the country. He entered the fall committed to Ole Miss but ultimately chose to re-open his recruit amidst a difficult final season at the prep level.
The obstacles were increased after his transfer from West Orange High School (Winter Garden, FL) to Jones High School (Orlando, FL) ahead of the year. Jackson never took full control of the offense due to the unanticipated success of 2026 quarterback, Dereon Coleman. Fortunately, he did find success in running the football, rushing for 855 yards and ten touchdowns.
As the former composite three-star recruit begins his college career, he will likely not see the field early on as he learns the playbook and grows physically. Jackson’s potential is intriguing, however, as he does possess many of the same skills as recent Florida State star, Jordan Travis.
"I've watched a lot of Jordan Travis in order to prepare for Mike Norvell's offense,” Jackson said in his introductory press conference. “I feel like we do a lot of things similarly."
In an offense that is challenging for younger players to grasp, Jackson’s ability as a runner could be useful as he battles in a room that includes fellow true freshman and touted four-star recruit, Luke Kromenhoek.
"Norvell's offense is sneaky." Jackson said, "Jordan Travis just had a great year in his offense. The coaches here talk about how it's one of the hardest college offenses to learn because there’s so many different things that can happen on one play. It gives you good experience for the NFL"
As it stands right now, Jackson’s career trajectory will be an uphill battle. Still, he did have his reasons for choosing the Seminoles as a preferred walk-on rather than scholarship opportunities at programs such as Penn State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M.
"My grandma always loved Florida State. Other than that, why not come and get enhanced by coach Norvell? It was an easy decision,” Jackson claimed.
Even if Mike Norvell's coaching prowess made the decision to attend Florida State easy, the decision to sign with a school that didn't even offer him a scholarship is a respectable sign of a player betting on himself.
"I think my greatest strengths are leadership and accountability, throwing, running and just getting the job done."
