FSU Football Retains Potential Breakout Defensive Tackle For 2024 Season

The Seminoles lock down a potential breakout player for next year.

There are a couple of players across Florida State's roster who are setting themselves up for potential breakout seasons in 2024. After two seasons developing and gaining experience in a deep defensive line room, redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Daniel Lyons is ready to step into a sizable role for the Seminoles.

On Friday afternoon, Lyons ensured his place in Tallahassee through an announcement with The Battle's End. He appeared in all 14 games this past season and made the first start of his career in the Orange Bowl. Lyons totaled 16 tackles, including six solo stops. He was on the field for a career-high 30 snaps against Georgia.

The Florida native signed with the Seminoles as a three-star prospect in the 2022 class. He appeared in four games and recorded four tackles during his first season with the program.

Lyons will have an opportunity to lock down a spot in the rotation this spring. The defensive tackle room also includes redshirt junior Joshua Farmer, redshirt junior Darrell Jackson, redshirt junior Grady Kelly, redshirt freshman KJ Sampson, true freshman Jamorie Flagg, and true freshman D'Nas White.

Outside of Lyons, running back Lawrance Toafili, running back Caziah Holmes, wide receiver Darion Williamson, wide receiver Kentron Poitier, wide receiver Destyn Hill, offensive lineman Robert Scott, offensive lineman Darius Washington, offensive lineman Maurice Smith, offensive lineman Keiondre Jones, offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers, defensive end Patrick Payton, defensive end Byron Turner Jr, defensive tackle KJ Sampson, linebacker Omar Graham Jr., cornerback Azareye'h Thomas, cornerback Fentrell Cypress II, cornerback Quindarrius Jones, cornerback Ja'Bril Rawls, safety Shyheim Brown, punter Alex Mastromanno, and kicker Ryan Fitzgerald have all announced they'll return to Florida State since December.
