FSU Football Scholarship Count: Where Does The Roster Sit At Start Of Offseason?

60% of the Seminoles' roster is projected to be underclassmen in 2024.

The college football season is over and the offseason is now in full swing. There are roughly eight months to go until Florida State kicks off its 2024 season in Ireland with an ACC matchup against Georgia Tech in Aviva Stadium on August 24.

The roster is going to look fairly different this upcoming season with a ton of talented Seminoles such as quarterback Jordan Travis, running back Trey Benson, wide receiver Keon Coleman, wide receiver Johnny Wilson, tight end Jaheim Bell, defensive end Jared Verse, defensive tackle Braden Fiske, linebacker Kalen DeLoach, and cornerback Renardo Green, among others, making the leap to the NFL. There have also been nearly 20 players who have transferred out of the program.

Four More FSU Football Players Agree To Deals With The Battle's End To Return

Florida State will be supplementing the departures with a 2024 recruiting class that currently includes a mix of 22 high school signees and nine transfers. That means at least 31 new faces will be arriving in Tallahassee in the spring or summer.

Let's take a look at where the projected scholarship numbers stand with the beginning of the offseason upon us.

TOTAL: 84

Seniors: 21

Juniors: 12

Sophomores: 18

Freshmen: 33

Ahead of spring practice, Florida State is projected to be sitting right near the 85 scholarship limit. It's important to note that teams can be over the limit during the offseason and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Seminoles make a couple of more additions through the transfer portal. There are a couple of positions on the roster (linebacker, offensive line, running back, tight end) that could still use reinforcements.

This will be a younger team with less proven experience on paper but a lot of potential. 60% of FSU's roster will be underclassmen (freshmen or sophomores) but there are plenty of players among that group who are expected to take on big roles on both sides of the ball.

There are still some moving parts that will have to be addressed over the next couple of months. With that being said, there's a lot to be excited about if Florida State can pull some more victories in the transfer portal.
