The season opener is just five days away as the No. 8 Florida State Seminoles prepare to travel to Orlando, Florida, to take on the No. 5 LSU Tigers in primetime on September 3. There have been many obstacles for both teams as injuries and suspensions have reared their heads leading up to what should be a matchup for the ages.

Although both programs have worked hard in the offseason to prepare for the event, one obstacle that could stand in the way of their top-10 showdown lies in the hands of nature, Hurricane Idalia is poised to wreak havoc on the Gulf Coast shoreline beginning Tuesday evening and into Wednesday.

"Right now, we're tracking that hourly," FSU head coach Mike Norvell said on Tuesday morning. "If we need to adapt and adjust, then we will, but right now, tomorrow is going to be a lighter day, kind of a big mental day for us, and we will see what that looks like when we get to that point but right now I'm not anticipating any major changes."

In its current projection, Hurricane Idalia is expected to land as a Category Three hurricane on Wednesday, generating wind speeds of up to 125 mph. In an 11 a.m. update, the National Hurricane Center announced that "maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts." Rapid intensification is expected before landfall, and Idalia is forecasted to be a major hurricane when it reaches the Gulf Coast of Florida Wednesday morning."

Traveling Florida State and LSU Tiger fans alike will be paying close attention to the outcome as they make their way to Camping World Stadium in the wake of the storm.

Florida State University has already announced that the main campus will remain closed through Friday, September 1, after shutting down earlier today. Campus housing will remain open while dining operations could be altered based on the storm's severity.
