FSU Head Coach Mike Norvell, Players Talk Spring Practice Ahead of Second Scrimmage
The Florida State Seminoles have eight practices and a scrimmage in their tail lights, and another scrimmage scheduled for this upcoming Saturday. Head coach Mike Norvell addressed the media post-practice to detail how spring camp has gone so far and what he expects from the team this weekend.
"I thought it was a good work day today, you know, challenged the guys at the end. I thought you saw throughout the practice, really, both sides of the ball had dominant moments. We got third-down work in the middle of practice; offense did an extraordinary job there. You got a little bit of red zone work, also being able to kinda mix it up and put the offense in some tougher situations, backed up trying to get an opportunity to respond to all the different things that we can face and will face."
Norvell said it was a competitive practice but that he is still striving for more from the team to get them to a place where he knows they can be.
"I thought both sides of the ball had good swings of how they were performing, but just challenge them; I want more push,” Norvell said. “As we're going through it, this team has worked really hard for eight practices, and today there were some up and down moments, not by, I wouldn't say, the entire team, but just by there is a side of the ball, an individual, things that showed up, a lot of good plays around today's practice, still feeling the physicality guys are pushing but we gotta have that consistency for us to get to where I believe we are capable of going."
With Saturday's scrimmage on the horizon, Norvell said that he expects quarterback Jordan Travis to get some work in this time around as he sat out the last scrimmage.
"We will continue to go through the situations that we wanna see. I probably will have some 'game-like' situations; it might be a half, it might be different things that I want to see, but I'll kinda plan that once we get a little closer. I've got a plan in mind, but we'll go back and look at all the things we've had an opportunity to do and if I have anything specific, I might throw in a couple of wrinkles as we get into Saturday. I do expect Jordan to get some work."
Norvell goes over the receiving room, the team's progression and more in his full interview below.
