FSU Star Jared Verse Praises Mike Norvell: 'He Inspires You To Be Your best'

Verse had plenty to say about Norvell during a recent appearance on The Jim Rome Show.

Heading into the college football season, Jared Verse was highly touted as a top player in the sport across the nation. Despite not posting his first two sacks until last week, he's still understood to be a future first-round pick.

Against Virginia Tech, Verse had a breakout game with two sacks. His elite play continues for Florida State, and head coach Mike Norvell plays a big role in that.

Verse joined Jim Rome's show and discussed having Norvell as a head coach.

"His intensity is just out of this world. I've never met somebody that can match my intensity, let alone exceed that on a day-to-day basis," Verse said on the show. "He comes in, he's instantly smiling. You're hyped up, you want to be here and you want to go play ball. You want to do this, you want to do that. You want to run through a wall for him. He inspires you to be your best and he's going to be his best to match you."

Practicing against someone with Verse's mentality and attitude is a game changer, it'll ultimately help his teammates to get better. Adding that on top of Norvell's coaching makes for a special combination with the energy that the star defensive end brings to the table.

"That's just me. I'm hyped up, I'm loud, I'm excited," Verse said. "I like being here, I like working. I like being on top, being loud, getting in your face, letting you know that 'hey, I just got you on this play. I'm gonna get you on this next play.' I like getting in your face, I like getting in people's heads. I'm just hyped up. Coach Norvell, he just hypes me up too, we're going back and forth. I just love playing for coach Norvell."

When Norvell joined the program, Florida State was coming off two straight losing seasons. In his first two years, Norvell had a losing record with the Seminoles. Last season, however, things began to change.

Part of that was due to the acquisition of Verse out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, as he helped put together a stifling defense. As a team, the Seminoles went 10-3 in the 2022 season, which marked the beginning of a turnaround. So far this season, the Seminoles are 5-0 and seem to be heading in an incredible direction.

Verse and Novell embody the high-energy, winning mentality that Florida State needs to continue building on winning seasons and being a high-level program.
