FSU vs. Boston College: Three Key Matchups To Remain Undefeated

The Seminoles look to remain unbeaten in an ACC matchup against Boston College.

Florida State is the No. 3 ranked team in the country. It's safe to say they have made a statement in the college football world and are in a good spot as a team. So far through two games, the Seminoles have put up 111 points, including 66 points against Southern Miss.

"This team is going to be scary. We haven't played our best game yet, we left a lot of points on the field," Trey Benson said after the Week 2 win over Southern Miss.

Frankly, Benson is right. The wide receiver corps had an incredible Week 1 with both Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson eclipsing the century mark in receiving yards, though Benson struggled some in the backfield. Then, Wilson saw dropped balls in Week 2 when Benson scored himself a hat trick.

So, playing Boston College in Week 3, Florida State is currently 26-point favorites in the matchup. Similar to last week, the key three matchups aren't necessarily must-haves to win this game in particular.

The team is chasing an ACC championship and a potential spot in the College Football Playoffs. These keys to the game are for the team to show their abilities against a lesser opponent that will be must-haves when a bigger game is played.

Here are three keys to Florida State's Week 3 matchup against Boston College.

1. Florida State vs. Themselves

As mentioned, Wilson dropped some easy balls in Week 2. He and Jaheim Ball left some easy ones in Week 1, too. As a matter of fact, Wilson had zero catches or yards on Saturday night and ended up exiting the game early after getting banged up. He's responded well in practice which is an encouraging start.

If Florida State is going to be a consistent offense, those things need to be cleaned up on gamedays, and playing an inferior opponent poses the perfect opportunity to show those capabilities. Playing clean football and making both easy and explosive plays will be important.

2. Florida State Run-Game vs. Boston College Defense

Boston College is the inferior opponent here and is already at a disadvantage because of that. Florida State has a chance to run away with this game, but they'll need to attack the opposition's weakness to do so.

Through two games, The Eagles have allowed 215 yards per game on the ground. Their pass defense has been much better but the pass-rush has been a non-factor. The trio of Benson, Lawrance Toafili, and Rodney Hill will have a field day against their run defense, taking care of the game as the Seminoles should with inclement weather expected in the area.

1. Florida State Secondary vs. Boston College Pass Game:

Throughout the season, Florida State will be in a position to be the aggressor. They'll put pressure on opposing teams, often being the favorites, especially with the remaining games on their schedule.

The Seminoles' pass rush will be solid, as they've got a solid group, but the secondary will have to limit big plays. While the first two weeks of football have been big wins for Florida State, a few deflating breakdowns could turn things south. If the team is going to have a dominating defensive game once again, the secondary will be in the middle of it.
