How Did ESPN's College GameDay Pick Florida State at Florida?
The Florida State Seminoles are facing a tall task. They're playing with backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker taking the starting keys for the first time as they try and protect their undefeated season and College Football Playoff hopes. They're doing so as they head to The Swamp to take on their rivals - the Florida Gators.
Outside of Rodemaker, the rest of the squad will have to step up. He will need good blocking and for his receivers to break open quickly.
Last year in this matchup, Florida State snapped a three-game losing streak to Florida and beat them for the first time in a few years.
Here is how ESPN's College GameDay crew picked the contest:
Desmond Howard: Florida State
Pat McAfee: Florida State
Aidan Hutchinson: Florida State
Lee Corso: Florida State
"I think is the right game for Rodemaker to come in," McAfee said. "I think Florida State can continue what they've done all year."
If Rodemaker can have a big game and win in Gainesville, it will be a huge boost ahead of the ACC championship in a week.
It's surprising the Seminoles took all the votes because Florida owns the all-time matchup 37-27-1. Despite having Rodemaker under center, the GameDay crew still believes in the depth and talent of the squad to step up.
Still, the Seminoles have been rolling all season, whereas the Gators are 5-6 and need this win to make a bowl game. There's a lot riding in this night matchup, and it'll be good to watch.
The Seminoles are less than touchdown favorites after opening the game as a double-digit favorite. Because of the rivalry game and Jordan Travis' injury, this game will be a close one in a hostile environment, but it's up to the Seminoles to simply find a way to win.
