The Tigers will be replacing wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and are dealing with some other issues amongst the position group.
On Tuesday, news broke that LSU star wide receiver Malik Nabers was arrested in New Orleans on a weapons charge. Nabers was not required to post bail and released, according to court documents from the Orleans Parish Magistrate.
According to ESPN, an LSU spokesperson communicated that head coach Brian Kelly is aware of the incident and that the school is gathering further information.
The incident occurred on Monday around 7:30 p.m. eastern when police spotted an "L-shaped object" in his front pants pocket. Nabers informed a group of officers on foot patrol that he didn't have a permit for the weapon which resulted in him being handcuffed and taken to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, per NOLA.com.
The crime is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum fine of $500 and a six-month sentence in the state of Louisiana. Nabers appeared in Magistrate Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Last season, Nabers put together a breakout season in Kelly's first year at LSU. He developed into a star, leading the team with 72 catches for 1,017 yards with three touchdown catches and one rush for five yards. Nabers is the top returning wide receiver in the SEC.
The Louisiana native played a crucial role in LSU's loss to Florida State. He caught five passes for 42 yards but struggled on special teams. Nabers muffed two punts, including one in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, that were both recovered by the Seminoles. However, the turnovers led to zero points for FSU after the offense turned over the first possession on downs and lost the second one at the hands of a fumble.
In the end, Florida State prevailed 24-23 at the hands of a blocked extra point by Shyheim Brown with no time remaining.
The Seminoles and Tigers will match up again on September 3 in Orlando. It's unclear at this time if Nabers will be in the lineup or not.
