Mike Norvell Discusses Hurricane Lee's Impact Ahead Of ACC Opener Against Boston College

"If it's extreme winds, I mean, yes, it'll have an effect, but ultimately, we try to do what we can."

The No. 3 Florida State Seminoles (2-0, 0-0 ACC) are set to go on the road to take on the Boston College War Eagles (1-1, 0-0 ACC) and begin conference play. However, the weather may have different plans as Hurricane Lee continues to barrel toward New England with Saturday's Noon kickoff directly in its path.

As of Wednesday morning, the Category 3 storm had reached maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, and under its current trajectory, it is set to be right off the coast of Boston, Massachusets, around 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

"There’s really not a whole lot you can do to prepare for wind," Mike Norvell said when asked about the playing conditions.

The Seminoles are planning to participate and have been practicing wet ball drills this week, but simulating a hurricane is a stretch in the practice facilities.

"There's things that you'll always have plans for whatever the circumstance is. We'll work with our kickoff with a guy holding the ball, you know, we'll make sure we get great reps of that, of what that'll be, so the guys have confidence in case that's a situation. Jordan (Travis), our quarterbacks, they throw tight spirals," Norvell said. "If it's extreme winds, I mean, yes, it'll have an effect, but ultimately, we try to do what we can. I would love to be able to put a bunch of fans all up here and just be able to have that type of impact."

A hurricane impacting the Seminoles' schedule is nothing new, as evidenced by Hurricane Idalia two weeks ago, which ravaged the panhandle and western coast of Florida as FSU faced off against the LSU Tigers in the aftermath.

There is a chance that the game against Boston College could get cancelled or postponed due to the storm.

"Right now, I haven't heard anything towards that," Norvell said about the schedule being affected by the weather.

A question of whether or not either school could veto a decision by the ACC to postpone or cancel was posed to Norvell.

“I don't know. Good question."

If and when the contest takes place on time is up in the air, but, as of now, it is still game on in Beantown.
