Mike Norvell Wants Destyn Hill to 'Trust the Process' as he Begins Career at Florida State

Norvell has stayed in contact with Hill's high school coach and other people around him during this process.

The mysterious saga of Destyn Hill's high school recruitment finally concluded last week when he arrived to enroll at Florida State. More than two years after signing his letter of intent with the Seminoles, he's officially on the roster and set to begin his college career.

The addition of Hill is beginning to draw some excitement from the fanbase. After all, he was Florida State's top-ranked signee in the 2021 class and is a wide receiver with the skills and athleticism to be a difference-maker at this level.

Ahead of his first preseason camp in Tallahassee, head coach Mike Norvell wants Hill to trust the process. That sounds a little cliche but Norvell is simply looking for the Louisiana native to continue to improve and grow comfortable day by day.

"We're excited. We're excited to have him here and I told him, 'trust the process.' It's funny because you hit the ground and one of the things that makes him special is just that sense of urgency that he brings," Norvell said during the ACC's Spring Meetings. "He brings an intensity to how he plays and how he prepares. He's been working for a long time, preparing to get here and to be ready to make an impact. I just tell him to 'trust the process,' come in and every day just work to be his best. He wants it all and that's a great thing to have. A lot of the players we bring in have that mentality."

"You've got to take one second. Just take it one second at a time. If he can do that daily and continue to get better, I'm excited to see what he's going to be able to bring," Norvell continued. "Definitely looking forward to getting started with workouts to see exactly where he is. Been a lot of discussions with his high school coach and people that have been around him. Where he is coming in, we're excited about. Still got to go to practice and got to get ready to do all those things, your meetings, and all the things that are ahead."

Norvell believes that Hill is ready to take advantage of the opportunity that's in front of him. He's been preparing to join the Seminoles for a long time. There may be a learning curve out of the gate but his potential is evident if Hill can retain what he displayed as a prep star.

"He's been working. It's been challenging when you're not present and you have a desire to be, it's hard. There's been a lot of anticipation and he's been doing all the things that he can do. When you want to be out there practicing with teammates and all that and when it is delayed, it's hard but he's preparing himself and been preparing himself for the opportunity that's ahead so I know he's going to take advantage of it."

Florida State's wide receiver group is stacked with talent from top to bottom. From Johnny Wilson to Kentron Poitier to Keon Coleman, and more, there's a lot to like about what the position group will bring to the offense.

The Seminoles will theoretically be able to create mismatches all over the field. That doesn't even include flexing tight end Jaheim Bell or running back Lawrance Toafili (a move we saw last year) to the slot.

"It's an exciting group to see. I think we've got high potential with guys that are within our team, the diversity of skillsets, some guys that have shown some great flashes of what they can do. I think we've got a really talented group and I think when you look at the newcomers that will be joining, it's got a chance to be a very, very explosive and competitive group where you'll be able to show a lot of different personnel distributions," Norvell said. "I think we can create some good matchups. These guys, they know their sense of urgency and having to go out there and perform when they get the moment to do that. Those guys are working hard and trying to build each other in that process.

There's a lot to like about the wide receivers and Florida State's offense in general ahead of the season. The program is drawing a ton of anticipation leading up to the fall.

The Seminoles will kick off their campaign on Sunday, September 3 at 7:30 p.m. against LSU in Camping World Stadium.
