NBA Legend Critiques College Football Playoff Committee After Florida State's Snub

Even NBA legends are taking the opportunity to share support for Florida State after its playoff snub.

As the College Football Playoffs are on the horizon, this year comes with a bit of controversy. By now, everyone knows that Florida State was snubbed from the playoffs. Despite heading into conference championship weekend ranked No. 4 and defeating Louisville, the Seminoles were leaped by Alabama and Texas in the playoff rankings.

This has sparked a ton of conversation far and wide. Many personalities, media members, and fans across college football have spoken on the matter, whether they support Florida State or believe the right decision was made to leave them out.

The story was so big that NBA legend Charles Barkley spent time on a college basketball broadcast speaking on the matter. Barkley joined the broadcast as Auburn hosted USC this past weekend where he then had the platform to join the conversation.

NCAA President Comments on CFP Selection Committee's Decision To Snub Florida State

“Here’s my problem with the whole thing as a player, they penalize because they lost their starters. Well wait a minute you showed total disrespect to the backups. That was my whole problem," Barkley said. "...Winning with backups should have gave you brownie points, not penalize you."

The Seminoles finished their season off playing with two different backup quarterbacks. Longtime backup Tate Rodemaker took down the Florida Gators in a nighttime rivalry game. True freshman Brock Glenn stepped up and won an ACC Championship game in his first career start. They were penalized for those two things, as Barkley alluded to.

"If we’re gonna play sports now where it only matters if you’re using your starters, I don’t want to be in that world. They won three games with a backup and another backup," Barkley continued.

For the Seminoles players, they probably do feel like their regular season wins no longer matter because the playoff committee set that precedent for them. Still, they were 13-0 and took care of business on a weekly basis, all just to end up playing Georgia in the Orange Bowl.
