Politicians Around State Of Florida Respond to FSU Being Left Out of the College Football Playoff

Florida lawmakers are demanding answers from the College Football Playoff selection committee regarding FSU being left out of the playoffs.

Since its inaugural season in 2014, no undefeated Power Five Conference Champion has been left out of the College Football Playoff. That precedent ended the morning of December 3rd when the CFP selection committee put the 13-0 ACC champion Florida State Seminoles at No. 5 behind 12-1 Alabama and Texas.

Following the controversial decision from the selection committee, countless fans, players past and present, coaches, and members of the media have voiced their opinions on the matter, whether it be on television, social media, or even by contacting members of the committee itself.

Things have taken a step further, however, as U.S. Senator for Florida and former Florida governor Rick Scott has sent a letter to the selection committee "demanding answers and transparency" regarding the historic playoff snub. Scott took similar actions in 2017 when the UCF Knights went 14-0, and declared them national champions, a title they claim to this day.

In addition to Scott, other politicians have voiced their opinions on the matter, including the current governor as well as the chief financial officer of the state of Florida. While Scott was the only lawmaker to address the committee with a formal letter, the politicians have voiced their concern not only on behalf of the Seminoles but for the good of college football as well.

While Selection Committee Chairman Boo Corrigan said on Sunday that "Florida State was a different team than they were the first 11 weeks" meaning they are a different team without quarterback Jordan Travis, who suffered a season-ending leg injury in Florida State's week 11 game, the reasoning was vague and unacceptable in the eyes of many fans.

Even though no legal action can be taken place to put FSU into the playoffs, the support of Florida lawmakers regarding the matter may force the selection committee to release detailed statements as to what went into the decision to leave the Seminoles outside of the field.
