Florida State is moving on up following a decisive victory against LSU.

Florida State opened up its 2023 season with an eye-opening victory against the LSU Tigers on Sunday night. The Seminoles put the entire country on notice with a 45-24 beatdown of one of the most highly-ranked teams in the nation.

Over the last couple of days, FSU has picked up a ton of praise from the national media, emerging as a potential College Football Playoff contender. That was reflected in the latest round of rankings.

On Monday, the weekly Associated Press Top 25 Poll was released. After debuting as the No. 8 team in the country, Florida State is climbing the ladder quickly. The Seminoles moved up to the No. 4 spot, a jump of four spots. This marks the highest ranking for the program entering Week 2 since 2016. The complete AP Top 25 Poll can be viewed here.

Looking at the remainder of the poll, Georgia, Michigan, and Alabama are the seven teams ranked higher than Florida State. LSU dropped to No. 14 after falling to the Seminoles on Sunday.

As of now, FSU has two ranked teams remaining on its schedule after Clemson's loss to Duke on Labor Day. The Seminoles remain the highest-ranked team in the ACC. Outside of the Blue Devils (No. 21) and Tigers (No. 25), North Carolina slots in at No. 17 after defeating South Carolina over the weekend.

If Sunday is a sign of what is to come consistently in 2023, the Seminoles are setting themselves up for a memorable campaign. Quarterback Jordan Travis completed 23/31 passes for 342 yards with four touchdowns to one interception while rushing for a score on the ground.

Wide receiver Keon Coleman broke out with a team-high nine catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns. The yardage and number of touchdowns are the most by a wide receiver in their debut with the Seminoles in program history.

Oh yeah, the defense limited LSU to 3/5 in the red zone and 0/3 on fourth-down attempts while totaling three sacks and five tackles for loss.

Florida State returns to action on Saturday night for its home opener against Southern Mississippi in Tallahassee. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised on the ACC Network.
