Standout Defensive Tackle To Return To FSU Football In 2024 With New Number
The 2024 season was expected to be somewhat of a retooling year in Tallahassee. After the disrespect that Florida State received on the national stage, head coach Mike Norvell and his staff are making a furious effort to gear up the team for another run at the ACC Championship and College Football Playoff.
On Wednesday morning, redshirt junior defensive tackle Darrell Jackson announced that he was coming back to the Seminoles for another season, through a release with The Battle's End. He will also be donning a new number as he moves to No. 6 after Dennis Briggs transferred from the program.
FSU Football Staffer Expected To Take Position With SEC School
Jackson is expected to be one of the top defensive linemen on the roster following a frustrating year where he was forced to sit out until the Orange Bowl due to his eligibility waiver being denied as a two-time transfer. He started against the Georgia Bulldogs and finished the contest with three tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss in 42 defensive snaps.
The Florida native began his college career at Maryland in 2021 before transferring to Miami the following season. Jackson totaled 22 tackles with the Terrapins before starting all 12 regular season games for the Hurricanes in 2022. He recorded 27 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Florida State's defensive tackle room includes Jackson, redshirt junior Joshua Farmer, redshirt junior Grady Kelly, redshirt sophomore Daniel Lyons, redshirt freshman KJ Sampson, true freshman Jamorie Flagg, and true freshman D'Nas White.
Outside of Jackson, DE Patrick Payton, DE Byron Turner Jr, DT Daniel Lyons, DT KJ Sampson, LB Omar Graham Jr., CB Azareye'h Thomas, CB Fentrell Cypress II, CB Quindarrius Jones, CB Ja'Bril Rawls, S Shyheim Brown, P Alex Mastromanno, and K Ryan Fitzgerald have all announced they'll return to Florida State since December.
RB Lawrance Toafili, RB Caziah Holmes, WR Darion Williamson, WR Kentron Poitier, WR Destyn Hill, WR Vandrevius Jacobs, OL Robert Scott, OL Darius Washington, OL Maurice Smith, OL Keiondre Jones, and OL Jeremiah Byers have announced their returns on offense.
