Two Walk-On Defenders From Florida State Enter NCAA Transfer Portal
There have now been nearly two weeks since the NCAA Transfer Portal window opened. Florida State has seen over ten players from its roster officially enter the portal window and a handful of others have declared their intentions to do so. This is always a fluid period where things can change by the second.
Over the last couple of days, two walk-on defenders from the program announced on social media that they intend to move on from the Seminoles. Redshirt senior defensive tackle Dylan Brown and redshirt senior defensive back Dwayne Wells Jr. will both play their final seasons of collegiate eligibility outside of Tallahassee.
Brown, a Tampa native, revealed his decision on social media on Tuesday. He made his lone appearance in the home opener against Southern Miss, recording one tackle in eight snaps. Brown spent the first four years of his career at FCS Rhode Island where he recorded 37 tackles, three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hurries in 37 appearances, with nine starts.
Former FSU Head Coach Jimbo Fisher Weighs in on CFB Playoff Snub
"It's been an incredible ride this past year. I've been able to be a part of a program that I grew up watching as a little kid. Thank you to coach Norvell for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to be a part of such a prestigious program. In such a short time I've made memories and lifelong friends that I will take with me forever. With that being said, I am officially in the transfer portal."
Wells Jr., also a Tampa native, spent the last two years at Florida State after previously attending Coffeyville Community College. Most of his contributions were on the scout team but he did appear for three snaps in the win against Southern Miss. He took to social media on Wednesday evening to express his gratitude for his time in garnet and gold.
"I would like to extend my genuine gratitude to the Nole Nation. The past two years here at Florida State University as a Nole have been a true blessing. To coach Norvell and the coaching/strength staff, I thank you for always keeping me prepared through the physical and mental aspects that the staff challenges on a daily basis to grow as a student-athlete. After deep consideration and countless conversation with my family, I have decided it will be best for my career athletically and academically to officially enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer."
There have been a plethora of players who have announced they are transferring from Florida State such as quarterback AJ Duffy, running back Rodney Hill, running back CJ Campbell, tight end Markeston Douglas, tight end Preston Daniel, offensive lineman Bless Harris, offensive lineman Thomas Schrader, offensive lineman Daughtry Richardson, offensive lineman Qae'shon Sapp, defensive tackle Malcolm Ray, defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase, linebacker DJ Lundy, linebacker Dylan Brown-Turner, and kicker Tyler Keltner.
Star defensive end Patrick Payton previously declared his intentions to do so but removed the references on social media and never officially appeared in the database.
